How do I find a therapist?

A great starting place is psychologytoday.com, where you can filter by your insurance, the symptoms you’re experiencing (such as anxiety, depression, or stress), and your preferences in a therapist. Another excellent resource is Inclusive Therapists, which highlights BIPOC, multicultural, multilingual, and culturally responsive practitioners—an especially helpful tool if you’re looking for inclusive therapy in California.

Another great way to find a therapist is right here on this website. Simply visit the Therapist Collective pull-down menu, where you’ll find a diverse array of skilled, authentic, and down-to-earth therapists who may be exactly what you’re looking for. Each profile is designed to give you a real sense of their voice, values, and style—so you can connect with someone who resonates with you before even reaching out.

You can also search directly on Google for qualities you’re looking for (e.g., “trauma-informed therapy Oakland” or “couples therapy California”). Adding your state or city helps you find someone who is licensed where you live, while still allowing access to California teletherapy / online therapy if in-person visits aren’t an option.

Whether you’re seeking a therapist in Oakland, CA, Bay Area therapy practice, or online therapy in San Francisco, the most important part is finding someone you feel safe and connected with—because a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation of meaningful progress.

Do I need therapy?

Therapy isn’t just about “needing” it anymore—it’s about choosing to prioritize your mental health and well-being. In 2025, we understand that mental health is just as important as physical health. I like to call couples therapy “the new mani pedi”— like we do it because it feels good and it’s cute, well sometimes! But in all seriousness we often get couples simply looking for a special and sacred space to talk through “all the big life things” in the midst of a busy life.

Clients come to us for many reasons, including:

  • Therapy for stress and life transitions

  • Therapy for professionals and executives navigating the pressure to do it all and somehow grow a family and or date too

  • Therapy for high achievers who want support without judgment and could use some skills to reduce the habit holes and spirals

  • Therapy for teens in California adjusting to school, friendships, or identity

  • Grief counseling during difficult losses, including job loss, pregnancy loss, divorce and deportation

  • Therapy for moms and parents balancing multiple roles and still somehow keeping their adults relationships intact

Think of therapy as a form of self-care, like a gym membership or regular wellness routine. It’s a dedicated space to reduce stress, gain clarity, and externalize overwhelming thoughts and feelings in a safe, supportive environment. And of course when symptoms are more severe it is a true form of treatment aimed to relive the distress and struggle.

What does a sex therapist do? How is it different from couples therapy?

As a Couples and Sex Therapist, I take an integrative approach that often combines elements of couples therapy / marriage counseling or pre-marital counseling and intimacy and sex therapy.

Sex therapy is not only about sexual activity—it also includes conversations about attachment, emotional connection, and relationship health. Clients often come in seeking and searching things like:

  • Sex therapy in Oakland, the Bay Area or in California to address intimacy concerns

  • Relationship help near me when you are struggling with closeness or communication

  • Couples therapy California for tools to strengthen connection and understanding

  • Couples therapy online to help my relationship, help fix my partner or help u before we get married

If you come specifically for couples therapy, we’ll address communication, connection, conflict, and relational patterns—while also checking in on intimacy and sexual needs. In sex therapy, those topics move closer to the center of our work while still attending to the whole of your relationship.

How much does therapy cost?

At MindfullyWell Therapy, a Bay Area counseling collective, we offer a tiered system to make services more accessible:

  • $275 with a licensed California therapist

  • $165 with an associate therapist on our team

We provide superbills and use Mentaya to support reimbursement for clients using out-of-network benefits. In addition, we maintain options for free or affordable therapy for those searching for “affordable therapy near me.”

We support a wide range of needs including therapy for anxiety and burnout, therapy for grief, trauma therapy / trauma-informed therapy, and online therapy in California for flexible access just to name a few.
